Don’t let its small size fool you… Liechtenstein offers a whole lot to travellers! This principality is nestled between Austria and Switzerland. It has year-round activities, including sports and mountain trails. Liechtenstein is certainly no novelty travel destination! Only have a single day to explore? Here are a few ideas to help you draw up a full itinerary. Get ready to discover this wonderful principality: Vaduz, Liechtenstein.
First up, be sure to make a stop at the Vaduz Castle
The Vaduz Castle is home to Prince Hans-Adam the second of Liechtenstein. It lies on a hilltop about 120 metres above Vaduz and was built back in the 12th century. It was a fortress and came into ownership of the Princely family in the 17th century. The castle is not open for visitors, but you are welcome to explore the grounds around the castle and enjoy the amazing views.
Drink a toast to Liechtenstein
Enjoy a few glasses of wine? Don’t miss a trip to the private cellars of the Winery of the Prince. That’s right – the actual prince of Liechtenstein has a winery! Here, you can unwind and relax as you taste the region’s vintages. And, as luck would have it, the Adventure Pass includes two complimentary glasses of wine! You can enjoy these at the Hofkellerei des Fürsten von Liechtenstein!
Set out on foot
Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein, is easy to explore on foot. Most attractions are within easy walking distance. With your Adventure Pass in hand, you’ll be able to gain free entry to many places of interest. These include the Liechtenstein treasure chamber, the Museum of Fine Arts, Liechtenstein National Museum, The Mühleholz outdoor swimming pool and more.
Definitely visit the Postal Museum
The postal museum is an extension of the Liechtenstein National Museum. It has been around since 1930! Founded at first as a holding place for special and rare stamps, it is home to numerous historical postal equipment. Visit this museum to get a stamp that would give you serious bragging rights!
Enjoy local fauna & flora
The Adventure Pass also includes forays to a bird of prey demonstration at the Galina Falconery. You also get a free guided tour of the Birka Bird Paradise. If avian pursuits are not your cup of tea, you might prefer a short trekking trail with Llamas. Or, a visit to the Neuguthof Adventure World. Here, you can explore the maize maze, partake in a vigorous bout of soccer golf or even pan for gold!
Top Tip! Invest in an Adventure Pass. The Liechtenstein Museum & Adventure Pass gives visitors admission to 25 great attractions and sights throughout the country. The pass is especially handy if you prefer to get around by bus. The fare can be quite expensive! With the pass you get all-inclusive access to Liechtenstein’s bus network. Thus, making it an all-around awesome franc-saver!
